Russia prepares to cut off Ukraine Gas Pipeline

2009 is going to be a hell of a year.......

Russia will cut off Ukraine's gas pipeline after talks between the countires failed in a move that threatens the supply to Europe.

Russia's Gazprom monopoly announced that its engineers had begun preparations to turn off gas to Ukraine, claiming that Kiev had refused to sign a new contract.

Vladimir Putin, the Russian Prime Minister, could barely conceal his fury that Moscow was once again being made to appear in Western eyes as an unreliable energy supplier in the depth of winter. Reporting to President Medvedev, Mr Putin said that despite Russia's offer of a below-market price for gas in 2009, Kiev had not only rebuffed Moscow but threatened to disrupt onward supplies to Western Europe.

According to Mr Putin, Ukraine had been offered a new price for gas of $250 per 1,000 cubic metres, a hike on the $179.5 it had been paying but significantly lower than the free market price of $418.

"Our Ukrainian partners have officially notified us that, in case no contract is signed on gas supplies for Ukraine itself, it=2 0will block the transit of our product to principal consumers in Western Europe," Mr Putin said.

"We believe that this is an absolutely improper position both from the economic and from the legal point of view," he said, adding that if transit agreements were breached, there would be "serious consequences" for Ukraine and "consumers in European Union countries".

Throughout the day there we reports that Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, popularly known as the "gas princess", was to head to Moscow in an attempt to reach a last-minute deal, but by evening her trip was cancelled, according to the Russian news agency Interfax, on the orders of Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko.

(CNN) -- A Catholic aid organization operating in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the country's government have accused Uganda-based rebels of massacring 400 civilians during Christmas celebrations last week.

The United Nations peacekeeping force in Congo put the death toll at 189 and said the Lord's Resistance Army rebels also abducted 20 children.

Caritas International expressed its "shock" at the killing spree in northeastern Congo, blaming the rebels for attacking a Christmas day concert sponsored by the Catholic church in the town of Faradje. LRA rebels also burned down a church in another village, it said.

"The areas have been plundered, leaving the people in desperate need of aid," the organization said in a news release issued on Monday. "Caritas says that the number of dead bodies risk spreading disease."

The Communist Party of Israel and Hadash (the Democratic Front for Peace and Equality) condemned the deadly Dec. 27 attack by the Israeli Air Force on the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the killing of over 200 Palestinians.

In a statement issued the day of the massive airstrikes, the CPI called on communist and workers parties and social movements throughout the world to mobilize against what it termed “these Israeli war crimes” and called on the international community to “implement sanctions against Israel and indict Tzipi Livni, Ehud Barak and other Israeli political and military leadership for these blatant war crimes, committed as part of Israel's election process.”

The CPI said the attack on Gaza is part of the Israeli government’s ongoing siege of the Gaza Strip. “Israel is exploiting the last moments of the Bush administration to implement the deadly but ineffective imperialist policy of utilizing military force to effect political change,” the statement said.

It noted that demonstrations against the Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip were planned for Israel’s major cities, with demonstrations to be held that night in Tel Aviv, Haifa and Nazareth. The day before, hundreds of demonstrators attended a rally in central Tel Aviv to protest the expected Israeli military operation in response to Palestinian rocket attacks from Gaza. The rally was organized by the Coalition against the Gaza Siege and Hadash.

"I suggest that we go the other direction," said Hadash Knesset Member Dov Khenin, a leading member of the Communist Party of Israel. Israel’s power, he said, “is our tragedy. One powerful blow will not bring the end. [Hamas] will respond with rockets and eventually we'll embark on an all-out war. Going in the other direction means reinforcing the lull, securing a ceasefire, and lifting the siege that only serves to unite the population around Hamas.”

Kucinich: UN should investigate Israeli Gaza strikes

Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) called for an independent investigation to be led by the United Nations into the recent eruption of violence between Israel and Hamas along the Gaza strip that has killed scores of innocent civilians.

Monday brought a third day of Israeli bombing Gaza in what the state is calling its "all-out" war on Hamas. So far, 345 people have been killed by the bombs. At least 57 of the dead are civilians, including 21 children, according to the UN.

Kucinich said he wrote to UN General Secretary Ban ki-Moon urging an "independent inquiry of Israel's war against Gaza." The Democratic lawmaker said Israel's attacks are an example of "collective punishment," which violates the Geneva Conventions.

Senior Chinese, Russian military officials hold first-ever talks via direct phone link

BEIJING, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Chen Bingde, chief of General Staff of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China and his Russian counterpart Nikolay Makarov held their first-ever conversation via direct phone link on Monday.

Both military leaders hailed the successful launch of the direct phone link.

Chen said the launch of the direct phone link between the two countries' chiefs of general staff is another important measure for deepening pragmatic cooperation between Chinese and Russian militaries and another showcase of the tow countries' mutual political trust and strategic cooperation.

The direct phone link will help the two sides maintain timely communication on significant issues such as the exchange and cooperation between the armies and exchange views and collaborate stances in time on international and regional affairs, so as to promote the exchange and cooperation between the two militaries, Chen added.

For his part, Makarov said the launch of the direct phone link once more showcased the high-level of the China-Russia strategic partnership and the two countries' military ties.

He expressed his willingness to work with the Chinese side to keep frequent exchanges on the two armies' cooperation and other important issues in order to push forward their military ties.

Hamas on Sunday threatened to respond to an ongoing Israel Defense Forces assault on the Gaza Strip by assassinating senior Israeli officials. Senior Hamas official Fatah Hamad specifically threatened Livni and Defense Minister Ehud Barak.

He also threatened that Hamas would go after senior Palestinian Authority officials in the West Bank, as well as "those in the Arab world who have conspired against us," - an apparent reference to Egypt.

PA President Mahmoud Abbas, however, said that Hamas could have prevented Israel's assault had it only agreed to extend the cease-fire, and he urged it to do so now.

IDF launches strikes on Hamas compounds throughout Gaza

Just days after the cabinet gave the military final approval to counter ongoing Palestinian rocket fire against communities in the western Negev, the IDF launched a massive operation, striking Hamas installations throughout the Gaza Strip on Saturday.

Hamas's police spokesperson said that at least 40 people were killed in the initial attacks, Sky News reported. The Jerusalem Post could not confirm this report.

Minutes after the first wave of airstrikes hit areas in the southern Gaza Strip, Palestinians reported a second wave which targeted installations in the center and the north of the Strip.

In response to news of a military operation, Magen David Adom announced that they were putting their staff on highest alert, and deploying over 200 ambulances throughout the country in the case of a Hamas counterattack. Further, the Home Front Command ordered residents in Sderot and the Gaza periphery to stack within reinforced shelters as much as they can for the time being.

Scientists warn Christmas lights harm the planet

SCIENTISTS have warned that Christmas lights are bad for the planet due to huge electricity waste and urged people to get energy efficient festive bulbs.

CSIRO researchers said householders should know that each bulb turned on in the name of Christmas will increase emissions of greenhouse gases.

Dr Glenn Platt, who leads research on energy demand, said Australia got 80 per cent of its electricity by burning coal which pumps harmful emissions into the atmosphere.

He said: "Energy efficient bulbs, such as LEDs, and putting your Christmas lights on a timer are two very easy ways to minimise the amount of electricity you use to power your lights."

He said the nation's electricity came from "centralised carbon intensive, coal-based power stations" which were responsible for emitting over one third of Australia's greenhouse gas emissions.

Dr Platt added: "For a zero-emission Christmas light show, you may consider using solar powered lights or sourcing your electricity from verified green power suppliers."

Christians warned against celebration: 'We are living under a state of fear'

JERUSALEM – Christians living in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip are holding only small, quiet Christmas celebrations after local leaders received warnings from Muslim groups against any public display of Christianity this holiday season, according to a Gaza Christian leader.

Publicly, some Christian leaders announced the dampened festivities were to protest an Israeli blockade imposed on Gaza after Hamas seized control of the territory in the summer of 2007. Israel limits trade convoys but still allows in humanitarian aid and directly supplies Gaza with 75 percent of its electricity. The Jewish state also provides monthly infusions of Israeli currency that fuel the Gaza economy.

Gaza Latin Church pastor Manuel Musalam faxed a statement to reporters announcing his church would not hold midnight Christmas mass to protest both the blockade and a threatened Israeli military invasion of Gaza. At least one other Christian leader in the territory made similar remarks to the media.

Still, according to local Christians, some private, low key celebrations took place.

A top Christian leader in Gaza told WND the decision to keep celebrations quiet came after he received threats from local Muslim groups against any public display of Christianity during Christmas. The leader was speaking on condition of anonymity, saying his life would be threatened if he spoke out publicly. He said the threats were conveyed to other Christian leaders in Gaza.

"We were warned not to celebrate in the streets or ring the church bells, otherwise Christians would be targeted. We are living under a state of fear," the Christian leader said.

"There is nothing we can do about the situation. We don't want to infuriate anyone," he said.

MSNBC Celebrates Christmas with Prison Shows

Christmas has inspired me to write this piece. Yes, the fight continues even on holidays...GOD BLESS AMERICA.

I am always monitoring the liberal progressive enemies and this caught my eye last night on Christmas Eve. FOX and CNN both had specials honoring Christmas and Christianity, but MSNBC chose to have a special on thugs in prison all night. There is a nice Christmas message for your family.

What did MSNBC present on Christmas morning? A marathon on Models in NYC....

The liberal vermin in this country are ALWAYS on attack when it comes to Christianity, American traditions, the police and the US Military. These institutions are a grave threat to the left wing scum that are obviously in control of MSNBC. They would rather see the traditional family passing around malt liquor and a crack pipe, instead of passing around Christmas presents.

MSNBC's ratings are so low due to this fact, that only a twisted mad hatter can actually watch this barrage of hate mongering against the USA and Christianity. Only someone with a real Socialist/Marxist agenda can appreciate the propaganda that is spewed from the sewer pipes (Michael Savage quote) of MSNBC.

Last night FOX News did an excellent and traditional Christmas show, that reminded me the old Bing Crosby days (before my time). The tribute to the troops was very good, but they could have spent more time with that topic.

These soldiers that they interviewed are true American heroes that the main stream media hides. The media would rather play up Britney Spears or some Hollywood junkie then show a true American war hero that is fighting against oppression and world communism. Communism is alive and well in the American socialist progressive Democrat Party.

The left wing vermin in this country DO NOT DESERVE to be represented by men and women of such high caliber, honor and bravery that we have in the US Military. The left hates that Iraq barely has any violence, so what do they do? The left hates the fact that there is more death and murder in Chicago (the home town of their Messiah, Kenyan born Hussein Obama), then there is in Iraq. They spew the economic fear mongering card 24 hours a day, because they plan on using the economy to make you all slaves to their Marxist agenda.

CNN did a very interesting show on the History of Christianity, that I watched in part and I will watch the rest later today on TIVO. So, I have to give some credit here to CNN for honoring the Christmas Holiday.

Russian Military Gets New Nuclear Missiles

MOSCOW -- Russian news reports say the military has commissioned another batch of new intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Russian news agencies quote a statement from the Strategic Missile Forces as saying the Topol-M missiles were put on duty Wednesday in Teikovo. The news agencies say the missiles are mounted on heavy off-road vehicles, but do not say how many were deployed.

Teikovo is a small town in the Ivanovo region some 250 kilometers (about 150 miles) northeast of Moscow.

The military commissioned its first Topol-Ms in 1998. The ITAR-Tass news agency said Wednesday the Strategic Missile Forces will have 65 such missiles by the year's end.

Russian officials hail the Topol-M's ability to penetrate any prospective missile defense.

U.S. Military Preparing for Domestic Disturbances

A new report from the U.S. Army War College discusses the use of American troops to quell civil unrest brought about by a worsening economic crisis.

The report from the War College’s Strategic Studies Institute warns that the U.S. military must prepare for a “violent, strategic dislocation inside the United States” that could be provoked by “unforeseen economic collapse” or “loss of functioning political and legal order.”

Entitled “Known Unknowns: Unconventional ‘Strategic Shocks’ in Defense Strategy Development,” the report was produced by Nathan Freier, a recently retired Army lieutenant colonel who is a professor at the college — the Army’s main training institute for prospective senior officers.

He writes: “To the extent events like this involve organized violence against local, state, and national authorities and exceed the capacity of the former two to restore public order and protect vulnerable populations, DoD [Department of Defense] would be required to fill the gap.”

Pakistan military on 'red alert' - Possible Attack by India?

Pakistan media is reporting that the country's military is on high alert over a possible strike by India.

Monday's reports come after a ratcheting up of tension between the two countries following attacks in Mumbai last month which killed 163 people.

Kamal Hyder, Al Jazeera's correspondent in Pakistan, said the local media attributed its reports to military sources, who were confirming that the navy, air force and army were on red alert.

"The Pakistani air force have been seen visibly in a number of locations flying close to the Pakistani-India border in what is being described as an aggressive patrolling mode, following reports that India is planning pre-emptive strikes against locations in Pakistan," Hyder reported.

"Chiefs of the three forces are meeting in what is being described as an emergency meeting in general headquarters in Rawalpindi.

"Only after the meeting is over will we come to know if it is a red alert or a heightened state of alert."

Hyder said that observers are saying that the Congress party in India has lost prestige due to the Mumbai attacks and, therefore, may try a show of strength in Pakistan.

Delayed civilian flights

The Reuters news agency quoted a Pakistan airline official as saying the Pakistani air force had conducted an exercise on Monday causing delays to two civilian flights.

"Two of our flights were delayed for some time because the PAF was conducting some exercises, but now everything is back on normal," Muhammad Latif, a spokesman for Pakistan International Airlines, said.

The flights were delayed at the airport in Lahore, near the Indian border, Latif said, while dismissing television reports of a high alert at Pakistani airports.

An air force spokesman declined to comment when asked about an exercise, saying only: "In view of the current environment, the PAF has enhanced its vigilance."

Divya Gopalan, Al Jazeera's correspondent in Srinagar, in India-controlled Kashmir, said that the Indian media was looking at Monday's reports with some degree of scepticism.

"They are saying that Pakistan is creating an artificial war hysteria to divert attention from the fact that they are under pressure from the Indian security services to deal with the Mumbai terror attacks."

'No red alerts'

Asad Durrani, the former head of Pakistani intelligence, told Al Jazeera that Pakistan was asked to do more to deal with individuals behind the Mumbai attacks. He dismissed the notion that the two states were on the brink of war.

"The test launch of the latest intercontinental ballistic missile Bulava, which is due to be held in the next two days from the Dmitry Donskoi [Typhoon-class] strategic nuclear-powered submarine, will not be the final test for the entry into service of the missile," the source said.

"Next year we plan three or four more launches, including from [Russia's first Borey-class] strategic nuclear submarine the Yury Dolgoruky," he said.

The Bulava will not be put into service without successful test launches from the Yury Dolgoruky, the source added.

The fourth-generation Yury Dolgoruky was built at the Sevmash plant in northern Russia and was taken out of dry dock in April 2007. It is due to be equipped with Bulava ballistic missiles upgraded from Topol-M (SS-27) missiles.

The submarine is 170 meters (580 feet) long, has a hull diameter of 13 meters (42 feet), a crew of 107, including 55 officers, a maximum depth of 450 meters (about 1,500 feet) and a submerged speed of about 29 knots. It can carry up to 16 ballistic missiles.

The latest test of the sea-launched Bulava missile took place on November 28. It was launched from the Dmitry Donskoi submarine in the White Sea, effectively engaging its designated target on the Kamchatka Peninsula about 6,700 kilometers (4,200 miles) east of Moscow.

The Bulava (SS-NX-30), developed by the Moscow Institute of Thermal Technology, is designed for deployment on Borey-class Project 955 nuclear-powered submarines.

At a news conference in downtown Chicago, a defiant Blagojevich emphatically declared his innocence and vowed to fight the charges against him.

"I'm here to tell you right off the bat that I'm not guilty of any criminal wrongdoing, that I intend to stay on the job and I will fight this thing every step of the way," he said.

Prosecutors have accused Blagojevich of, among other things, trying to sell President-elect Barack Obama's vacant U.S. Senate seat to the highest bidder. The state's attorney general, Lisa Madigan, tried to remove Blagojevich from office when she asked the Illinois Supreme Court to declare him unfit. But the high court refused to hear the case.

In his statement, Blagojevich put to rest any rumors that he is considering resignation.

"I'm not going to quit a job that people hired me to do because of false accusations and a political lynch mob," Blagojevich said before taking shots at Madigan, who appeared on NBC's "Meet the Press" and other detractors who are pushing for him to resign.

"I'm not going to do what my accusers and political enemies have been doing," he added. "That is to talk about this case in 30-second sound bytes on "Meet the Press" or TV news."

Blagojevich did not take any questions after making his statement.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) – An Iraqi journalist who hurled his shoes at U.S. President George W. Bush apologized to Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki for embarrassing him before the watching world, the prime minister's office said on Thursday.

TV reporter Muntazer al-Zaidi shot to instant fame when he called Bush a "dog" in Arabic at a joint news conference with Maliki in Baghdad last Sunday and threw both his shoes at Bush in a gesture that is a deep insult in the Arab world.

"Zaidi said in his letter that his big ugly act cannot be excused," said Yasin Majeed, Maliki's media adviser.

Majeed said that Zaidi added: "But I remember in the summer of 2005, I interviewed your Excellency and you told me, 'Come in, this is your house.' And so I appeal to your fatherly feelings to forgive me."

Zaidi's whereabouts remained unknown four days after he became a hero to those who blame the American president for the tens of thousands of Iraqi deaths that followed the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.

Brent crude rose 61 cents to $47.26 ahead of announcement in Algeria.

The oil price collapsed in the second half of the year, tumbling from an all-time high in excess of $147 a barrel in July, as the global economy moved into recession and demand slowed. A cut of 2 million barrels of daily production is on the cards, with some commentators saying the cartel could cut as much as 2.5 million barrels of production.

Russian leaders have also sent strong signals that the will act in concert with OPEC and unveil a co-ordinated production cut to help boost prices.

The country has been under pressure from OPEC to cut as many as 300,000 of the 9.75 million barrels it produces each day.

Earlier this month, the International Energy Agency revised its worldwide oil demand growth forecasts for this year to 1.2pc, or 1 million barrels a day, from 1.5pc in November.

"A 2 million barrels per day cut in production now runs the risk of a 'Buy the rumor Sell the fact' scenario," Rob Laughlin, analyst at MF Global said. "It would have been bullish for the market a week ago. But we have been warned to expect it now so I think the market will go up initially but then come down further."

Russia provides 10 MiG fighter jets to Lebanon for free

Russia gave Lebanon an early Christmas gift of 10 MiG fighter jets today in a deal to boost defence co-operation.

The MiG-29 Fulcrum fighters would be provided for free to Lebanon under an agreement on military-technical assistance, the head of Russia’s defence co-operation service said. Mikhail Dmitryev said that the jets would be taken from Russia’s existing stock.

He said that Moscow was also in talks to supply Beirut with heavy armour, adding that supplies of such weaponry were “now possible after the situation in this nation has stabilised”. He said: “We view the Lebanese army as the main guarantor of this nation’s stability, therefore the armed forces of this country must be strengthened.” The deal followed a meeting in Moscow between Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov and his Lebanese counterpart Elias Murr. Mr Serdyukov said that Russia had received a detailed list of armaments sought by Lebanon.

When details of the deal first emerged on Tuesday, it was suggested that the aircraft would be sold at a hefty discount. But Mr Dmitryev confirmed today that they would be free, with delivery paid by the Russian Defence Ministry, saying: “Military-technical assistance, this means assistance in budgetary funds.” The MiG-29s, one of Russia’s best fighter jets, will provide considerable additional firepower for the Lebanese air force, which currently has only five outdated Hawker Hunter jets and 16 helicopters.

Blind man's guide dog barred from restaurant for offending Muslims

Alun Elder-Brown, a recruitment executive, said he was left feeling "like a piece of dirt" after being barred from bringing the animal into Kirthon Restaurant in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, on religious grounds.

The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association said the decision was illegal under the Disability Discrimination Act and Mr Elder-Brown, 51, is now considering suing the establishment in The Pantiles.

It follows a series of successful prosecutions of Muslim taxi drivers who refused to carry guide dogs in their cars because they considered them unclean on religious grounds.

Mr Elder-Brown was taking his girlfriend out to celebrate her birthday with her five year-old daughter last week when he was told he would have to leave his dog, Finn, tied up outside.

He showed a card issued by the Institute of Environmental Health Officers certifying he and his dog were allowed into any premises but an argument ensued and the owners threatened to call the police if he did not leave.

"It was humiliating and degrading, especially as there were a lot of people around me," he said.

"I was made to feel like a piece of dirt. They told me I couldn't come in because it was against their religious beliefs to have a dog in the restaurant.

"They then said I could leave Finn tied up outside. I stayed calm but when they threatened to call police I left."

He added: "It was horrible. It put a dampener on the whole celebration."

Under the Disability Discrimination Act it is illegal to refuse to serve a disabled person of give them a diminished level of service because of their disability.

Chris Dyson of Guide Dogs for the Blind said: "We are extremely concerned and disappointed that Alun was refused access to this restaurant.

"We very much hope that this restaurant will reconsider its decision and get in touch with the charity so that we can give them a better understanding of their requirements under the law and explain the important role that the guide dog plays for Alun."

The restaurant's owner, Amenur Abdussamad, was not immediately available for comment.

But Shamin Ahmed, a partner in the restaurant, said that he had written to Guide Dogs for the Blind to apologise for the incident.

He said that although the owners of the venue are Muslim, he insisted religion was not a factor in the decision to refuse Mr Elder-Brown.

“We were worried about the hygiene, that is what happened, it was a mistake,” he said.

“I have had a letter from Guide Dogs for the Blind, I have sent a reply apologising about that.... we found out afterwards that guide dogs are allowed, I didn’t know that.”

MOSCOW, December 15 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Admiral Levchenko missile destroyer and a support ship will begin a visit to Lisbon on Friday, a Navy spokesman said on Monday.

The Udaloy-class destroyer is part of a task force from Russia's Northern Fleet led by the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier, which is currently on its way to the Mediterranean.

"The visit will last until December 22," Capt. 1st Rank Igor Dygalo said.

Following the visit, the task force will pass through the Strait of Gibraltar, visit several ports in the Mediterranean, and participate in joint exercises with Russia's Black Sea Fleet.

Dygalo earlier said that Russia currently has three naval task groups on tours of duty in the world's oceans.

Another naval task force from the Northern Fleet, led by the Pyotr Veliky nuclear-powered missile cruiser, is currently on a tour of duty in the Caribbean. The Admiral Chabanenko missile destroyer and two support ships from this task force will visit Cuba on December 19-23.

Meanwhile, a task force from Russia's Pacific Fleet, comprising the Admiral Vinogradov, an Udaloy class missile destroyer, a tugboat, and two tankers, is in the South China Sea heading to the Indian Ocean to take part in the INDRA-2009 joint naval drills with the Indian navy.

Russia announced last year that its navy had resumed and would build up a constant presence in different regions of the world's oceans.

Gov. Sarah Palin apologized to a pastor at her home church in Wasilla after a suspected arsonist set it on fire -- possibly as a result of "undeserved negative attention" caused by her vice presidential campaign, her spokesman said.

The Wasilla Bible Church suffered an estimated $1 million worth of damages after a fire burned through it Friday night.

"Whatever the motives of the arsonist, the governor has faith in the scriptural passage that what was intended for evil will in some way be used for good," Palin spokesman Bill McAllister told local television station KTUU in a statement Saturday.

No one was injured in the fire, which was intentionally set while people -- including two children -- were inside.

Pastor Larry Kroon said by the time he got to the church, smoke was pouring out of the building. Sprinklers kept the fire from spreading beyond offices and classrooms, he said.

On Saturday, the local fire chief said the fire "is definitely suspicious."

Kroon declined to say if the blaze was politically motivated or directed at Palin, the failed Republican vice presidential candidate. He also declined to say whether the church has received any recent threats.

"I've had a lot worst calls at night," Pastor Larry Kroon told KTUU TV. "When one of your parishioners dies or loses a child, it's a whole different thing than the building's on fire."

Russia retakes Georgian village near South Ossetia

Russian troops retook a village near the breakaway region of South Ossetia Saturday just hours after withdrawing, Georgia's Interior Ministry and European Union peace observers said.

The move drew criticism from Georgia, the EU and U.S. Senator John Kerry, who was on a half-day visit to Tbilisi.

Georgian police had already moved into Perevi on Saturday to remove Russian-built roadblocks when Russian troops and helicopters unexpectedly returned, said Shota Utiashvili, an Interior Ministry spokesman.

"They left, and we went in with about 40 people to remove the roadblocks," he said. "While they were doing this, the Russians deployed a battalion of special forces with helicopters and armor and told the Georgian policemen to get out immediately," he said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry refused immediate comment and South Ossetian officials could not be immediately reached.

The Russians tore down the wall, but that was only for cosmetic appearances; Eastern Europe and the CIA were not fooled. There were and still are many traitors in the CIA that have been downplaying the Russian strategy to destroy the USA and takeover Europe. The Russians want to create their own NATO for the purpose of using that branch of power to control and dominate Europe without even firing a shot.

HELSINKI -- Russian proposals for a new security pact in Europe are redundant and an attempt to weaken NATO, a senior U.S. diplomat said Thursday.

President Dmitry Medvedev says NATO is a Cold War relic, and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov used a meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe on Thursday to outline Moscow's ideas for an alternative.

The fallout from Russia's war with Georgia in August also caused friction at the two-day meeting in Helsinki.

U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Bryza said in an interview that Russia's proposal for a new collective security pact was directed at NATO.

"There is no need for some new architecture and it is pretty transparent, I think, what that's all about," Bryza said on the sidelines of the OSCE summit. "I think it's about looking for an alternative to NATO, which has worked so well. NATO makes Russia uncomfortable."

France, the current holder of the rotating European Union presidency, has said it was willing to discuss the Russian proposal. But most states in Europe, while saying they would listen to Russia's ideas, have shown little enthusiasm.

"We don't need new international institutions to get things done," Dutch Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen said. "We only need the common political will to make present institutions work as they were intended to do."

Finnish Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb, whose country holds the rotating OSCE chairmanship, said no firm decision had been made on how to proceed with the Russian proposal.

"This is in the very early stages. We don't have anything concrete, as such, on the table as a proposal," Stubb told a news conference after a private lunch where Lavrov took part in discussions on the plan.

Some Western diplomats have said their governments want Russia to pledge its commitment to the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe before they will consider its new security proposals.

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier offered to host talks on revamping the treaty. "We cannot allow the crisis in the CFE regime to lead to the loss of this pillar of European security," he said.

Putin was not too pleased with Bush prior to the 9/11 attacks, because that was when the talk about Georgia and the Ukraine joining NATO began. Bush was very well aware of the Russian plan to destroy the USA and that was why he began messing with their former republics.

4 - It is clear that just based on the deceptive background of these various strategic operations, including the major Soviet - Russian communist deception and long-term fraud called Perestroika, Russian "former" communists cannot be possibly seen behind anything that harms America, including the 9/11 attack.

5 - The organization of the entire "Islamic" terrorist network, including all terrorist groups of the KGB founded PLO [Hamas etc. - Yaser Arafat was a KGB long term agent, another such comparable Moscow asset is Libya's Muamar Qadaffi], is too perfect and too well organized which doesn't suggest that some "horseback riders" of Al Qaeda are capable to keep themselves organized, supplied with weapons, intelligence, logistical support and good level military training. The state sponsorship behind such groups is visible - but which state is behind

it [Russia, China etc.] escapes the most of the western analysts.

6 - The western [flawed] thinking, not accustomed to communist evil practices, disables beforehand any recognition of any long-term communist planning and operational strategy. [Russian, Chinese etc.] Communist "word of honor" is accepted, also based on the materialist western doctrine that as long as these "no longer communist" countries can produce cheap products for the West, they have no other intentions other than to be economically competitive with the West.
