Iranian News - 'US troops hit Russian motorcade in Iraq'

Who knows if this is true, but it is being reported for one reason and that is to show that the USA is looking to start trouble. The real troublemakers are the Russians and the radical Muslims. A Russian Foreign Ministry official says the US troops in Iraq have deliberately rammed their vehicle into a convoy carrying Russian diplomats.

The incident took place as a group of US armored personnel carriers (APCs) was passing by the motorcade of Russian diplomats, the official said, AFP reported.

"Suddenly the lead APC sharply maneuvered and, passing our second and third cars in the far left lane, caught up with the lead car and intentionally struck it, trying to push it off the road," he added.

The Russian Foreign Ministry official, who refused to be named, described the incident as a hit-and-run saying the US vehicles drove away with some of the soldiers pointing their rifles at the Russians.

Several Russian personnel received injuries of various degrees as a result of the collision, he said.

The official, however, did not mention the time of the incident, but said the Russians had been driving from the Green Zone to Baghdad airport.

Moscow has called on Washington to conduct an investigation into the case, the official said adding that Russia reserves the right to press for compensation.

WHILE campaigning in public for a speedy withdrawal of US troops from Iraq, Sen. Barack Obama has tried in private to persuade Iraqi leaders to delay an agreement on a draw-down of the American military presence.

According to Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Obama made his demand for delay a key theme of his discussions with Iraqi leaders in Baghdad in July.

"He asked why we were not prepared to delay an agreement until after the US elections and the formation of a new administration in Washington," Zebari said in an interview.

Obama insisted that Congress should be involved in negotiations on the status of US troops - and that it was in the interests of both sides not to have an agreement negotiated by the Bush administration in its "state of weakness and political confusion."

"However, as an Iraqi, I prefer to have a security agreement that regulates the activities of foreign troops, rather than keeping the matter open." Zebari says.

Though Obama claims the US presence is "illegal," he suddenly remembered that Americans troops were in Iraq within the legal framework of a UN mandate. His advice was that, rather than reach an accord with the "weakened Bush administration," Iraq should seek an extension of the UN mandate.

WASHINGTON — Iraqi Shiite explosive and assassination teams are being trained in at least four locations in Iran by Tehran's elite Quds force and Lebanese Hezbollah, according to intelligence gleaned from captured militia fighters and other sources in Iraq.

A senior U.S. military intelligence officer in Baghdad also said the fighters planned to return to Iraq in the next few months to kill specific Iraqi officials as well as U.S. and Iraqi forces.
The intelligence officer described the information Thursday in an interview with The Associated Press. He spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the intelligence information.

The officer on Wednesday provided Iraq's national security adviser with several lists of the assassination teams' expected targets. The country's intelligence service is now preparing operations to determine where and when the specially trained fighters will enter Iraq and will provide an assessment to Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, the intelligence officer said.
Iran, Hezbollah's mentor, denies giving any support to Shiite extremists in Iraq.

A day after a face-to-face meeting with President George W. Bush in Beijing who expressed 'grave concern', Mr Putin accused the U.S. of siding with Georgia by ferrying Georgian troops from Iraq to the battle zone.

I had a busy week last week, so my mind was elsewhere, but it came to me today. I get the feeling that Putin will order Al Qaeda to attack some where very soon (big attack either in the USA or overseas, I have no idea where) or some major distraction by Iran or North Korea to take the spot light off of Moscow. Top Hezbollah commander: We're stronger, ready for war

A senior Hezbollah commander told the U.K. Telegraph on Friday that the Lebanon-based militia is now stronger than before, and that though it does not seek war with Israel, it is prepared for a military confrontation.

Georgia 'shelling S.Ossetia, three dead'

MOSCOW, August 1 (RIA Novosti) - Georgia's breakaway republic of South Ossetia reported on Friday evening that three people had been killed as Georgian troops continued to shell its capital, Tskhinvali.

"A Georgian mortar platoon is shelling southern districts of Tskhinvali," South Ossetia's information and press committee said. "The northern [de facto] border is also being shelled. South Ossetia is returning fire."

South Ossetia had earlier reported that Georgian snipers were firing on a border checkpoint in the region, killing one police officer and injuring one more.

Russian peacekeepers deployed in the region confirmed the reports of automatic weapon fire.

"Three people have been killed and seven injured as of 21:00 Moscow time (17:00 GMT) by snipers from the Georgian side firing on Tskhinvali," Commander Vladimir Ivanov said, adding that the attacks were continuing.

South Ossetia's leader said the unrecognized republic would retaliate.

"Georgia has declared a sniper war on the Republic of South Ossetia and made another attempt to unleash a large scale war," Eduard Kokoity said. "The republic has so far refrained from retaliatory moves, but will not do so any more."

Tbilisi has not yet commented on the reports.
