ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Sprint races for the U.S. Cross Country Ski championships were canceled for a second day as temperatures in Alaska reached 65 degrees below zero.
The protracted cold spell set no records but canceled races last weekend in Anchorage while engineers and architects elsewhere in the city pressed on to finish a huge frozen art installation at Delaney Park.

The bear bombers were back at the permanent Ukrainka air base in the Far East early November 27. During the flight, the bombers were refueled by Il-78 flying tankers.
All flights of long-range aviation are made above the neutral waters and in strict conformity with the international air regulations. Russia’s jets don’t violate the borders of other states, Drik specified.

McCain’s Baked Alaska
It is conceivable that some people will think John McCain picked Sarah Palin to be his running mate because she is a woman. I know you find this shocking, but I swear I have heard it mentioned.
McCain does not believe in pandering to identity politics. He was looking for someone who was well prepared to fight against international Islamic extremism, the transcendent issue of our time. And in the end he decided that in good conscience, he was not going to settle for anyone who had not been commander of a state national guard for at least a year and a half. He put down his foot!
The obvious choice was Palin, the governor of Alaska, whose guard stands as our last best defense against possible attack by the resurgent Russian menace across the Bering Strait.
Also a woman, but that’s totally beside the point.
True, the only nonfamily members other than McCain that Palin really mentioned in her introductory speech were Democrats Geraldine Ferraro and Hillary Rodham Clinton. Whatever happened to Ronald Reagan? Isn’t there a rule that you have to mention Ronald Reagan?

My theory is based on Chinese philosophy, common sense and knowledge of the Russian agenda to rule the world and control all of the oil in the Middle East and the North Pole. The Russian media has mentioned on several occasions that WWIII would start over the oil in the Arctic and of course this has been ignored by the cowards in the MSM. They are daring anyone to stop them. The Canadians have increased their military presence in the Arctic to protect what belongs to them, because they are seeing the danger in the horizon. The Russians are manipulating the magnetic field above the Arctic to promote the melting of ice, so it will be easier for them to steal the oil. According to a UN Treaty Norway, Iceland, Denmark, Canada, Russia and the USA all equally share this area. Sarah Palin urges Congress to allow drilling for oil on the Outer Continental Shelf and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in northern Alaska, an area she calls "the most promising unexplored petroleum province in North America."
"What will it take for Congress to enact comprehensive energy policy?" Palin asks in the letter, dated yesterday. "In my opinion, the debate about energy policy is no longer theoretical and abstract. Our failure to enact an energy policy is having real consequences for every American in their daily lives and has begun to affect America's place in the world."
